{friday faves} protea

happy friday friends!!
i first came across these super large blooms when i worked afternoons in my local florist back when i was in school.  i was shocked when many brides would turn down this dramatic tropical bloom for their centerpiece, but times have changed and i'm happy to see the protea flower is making its way into today's weddings.

{blooms} olympics bouquet

have you noticed the monochromatic congratulatory bouquet at this year's winter olympics in vancouver? the bouquets are made up of green spider mums and green hypericum berries and large leaf greens, fern and loops of monkey grass and tied with a simple blue ribbon.  i think they are quite beautiful. do you agree?

{blooms} carnations

{carnations} are january's flower. carnations represent beauty, pride, admiration and gratitude, the carnation’s multilayered, feathery soft petals conceal a hardy core – an appropriate paradox for this first-month-of-the-year flower.
